As one of the first on the Danish market, JCH is launching a new type of check valve capable of meeting the requirements of EU standard EN 1717 on the protection of potable water from pollution in water installations. The new valves differ from traditional check valves by having an inspection hole, facilitating control and repair work.
Ahead of regulations
The new Types 2290 and 2294 check valves are based on the well-known Types 90 and 94 valves. JCH has developed the new check valves ahead of the requirements of EN 1717, which will become statutory in all EU countries within the next few years.
Innovative and future oriented
JCH has manufactured valves for water supply systems since 1919 and, as Lars Holmgaard, managing director of JCH, puts it, "We want to use our considerable experience to provide future oriented solutions. Together with a couple of our customers, we therefore decided to develop a new check valve to EN 1717 so that we were well ahead of regulations in the area. The main difference to standard check valves is the inspection hole, which greatly facilitates maintenance and repair."
EN 1717 stipulates a series of requirements on water system components, including:
- Components must be capable of withstanding pressures of up to 1 MPa (10 bar) and temperatures of up 65°C or 90°C for at least one hour.
- The product specification must contain the results of a durability test, stating the expected service life.
- There must be easy access to the component for inspection and repair purposes.
Product specifications
The new check valves are pressed from dezincification-resistant brass. Types 2290 are available with internal thread connectors sized 3/8” – 2” (DN 10 - DN 50). Type 2294 is (like Type 94) available with screw connectors sized 12-28 mm. Both the new valves are VA approved.
